For over a decade he’s been heralded as one of Germany’s most exciting electronic music acts, now, Johannes Brecht is ready to disappear. Not that the producer’s stopping making music – much on the contrary, he’s more creative than ever – but Brecht is taking a step back so that his music, and his music alone, can take centre stage.
Disparaître is the accomplishment of this disappearing act, an album where Johannes Brecht (re)joins forces with his old jazz ensemble, the famed solo producer vanishing in the process of the trio’s merging so that entirely new sounds can emerge.
“I missed this feeling, of being part of a whole,” says Johannes. As he himself fades into the surrounding ensemble, his own sound world emerges richer and more full of possibilities than ever before. The experimentation was fertile, “This album is a first step, but it’s still a search,” he says, “it must go even further”.
