Delos continues its musical partnership with Maestro Extraordinaire James DePreist and the Oregon Symphony with this exciting release featuring the music of William Walton and Bernard Rands. This important recording offers three different and unique works by Sir William Walton that showcase concerto, sonata, and film music genres. Walton is a particular favorite of Maestro DePreist’s and under his baton the Oregon Symphony and virtuoso cello soloist Mark Kosower present this tribute to these timeless symphonic works. Violin soloist Herbert Greenberg and pianist Ann Schein underline Walton’s skill as a composer of masterful chamber works in an incandescent performance of Walton’s only Sonata for violin & piano. Tre Canzoni senza Parole (Three Songs Without Words) by contemporary composer Bernard Rands are also included on this special release. Composed when Rands was composer-in-residence with the Philadelphia Orchestra and a testament to the talents of Riccardo Muti, these ‘songs/movements’ reflect the dramatic intensity and lyric beauty the composer is known for.
