Duo Entre-Nous is a clarinet and saxophone ensemble dedicated to the evolution and continued progression of new music. Formed in 2014 by Jackie Glazier and Don-Paul Kahl, the duo particularly focuses on the performance and commission of a new repertoire for this combination. Thus far the duo has commissioned composers from five different continents and 10 different countries, garnering new pieces in a variety of different styles, ranging from music inspired by folk traditions and pop music to the avant-garde. In particular, the duo supports the commissioning of composers from underrepresented groups, seeking to aid the creation and promotion of their works.

The duo released their debut album, Fresh Ink, on Equilibrium Records in 2021. The album features works which have been commissioned by the ensemble, and was praised by The Saxophonist Magazine:

Fresh Ink is the CD we have all been waiting for. With the explosion of saxophone and flute or clarinet duo as a viable ensemble, we have been begging for literature that would present these ensembles as serious vehicles of expression. Duo Entre-Nous offers us a CD with all new material written in the past 10 years…. a serious recording of what should become standard literature for clarinet and saxophone.

Aside from the obvious amazing compositions, this ensemble is tight and unrelenting in its execution. Clear, clean, precise, even within the performances of extended techniques such as quarter tone and pitched slap. Perfection of balance creating a musical relationship between players that exceeds their age.

The duo can also be heard on Gregory Wanamaker’s composer portrait album, Light and Shadows, Waves and Time, which was released on Navona Records in 2018. They premiered Scott McAllister’s “Concerto Americana” for clarinet, saxophone, and wind ensemble in 2016 with the University of Florida Wind Symphony in Florida, and gave subsequent performances in Louisiana and South Carolina. Other notable performances include the Kuraia Festival of Contemporary Music at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain, World Saxophone Congress in Croatia (2018), the International Clarinet Association Conference in Belgium (2018), the North American Saxophone Alliance Conference in Phoenix (2020), and a residency for the Ars Nova series at the UMKC Conservatory (2019).

Devoted to music education, the duo is active in teaching positions in the United States and Europe. Additionally, they have given many masterclasses, performances, and lectures at universities and conservatories throughout the US and Europe. Recognized both nationally and internationally, the duo’s mission is to bring excellence in performance and practice to all avenues of their work. Individually, the two members have won major international competitions for clarinet and saxophone, respectively. A long-term goal of the ensemble is to advocate for the unique sounds and artistic merits of the saxophone/clarinet duo and explore its fascinating possibilities.
