This disc is a feast of two of Schubert's most popular chamber works with the one-movement String Trio as a palate-cleansing sorbet in between. Featured are the Arpeggione Sonata in the version for cello and piano and the great B flat Piano Trio, performed by members of the Primrose Piano Quartet, one of the UK's most exciting ensembles and presented on the Meridian label with five other titles. The most recent of these, a disc of Fauré and Brahms quartets, was featured on "Building a Library" in CD Review, and comments on the three extracts played included: “One recording which has an exemplary clarity comes from the Primrose Piano Quartet on Meridian…They play with great stylistic awareness…and probably much truer to what Brahms had in mind…Their light approach [in the Andante] leaves space for the music to become grander later……..The Primrose Quartet is especially good in the Finale’s sweetly sentimental E minor episode, proving that here a light touch is probably the best sort…"
