Gert Kapo was born in Albania during the socialist dictatorship. When he was just one month old, Gert´s family was displaced from Tirana for political reasons. They found themselves in Berat: an old, hilly town in the south of Albania, where traditional music was omnipresent.
As Gert´s parents are both classical pianists, music played an important role in his life from a very early age. That might explain why Gert also became a pianist. During his teenage years, he developed a love for jazz and all kinds of black music – a passion that he was able to deepen during his music studies in Germany in the 2000’s – the newly found freedom there allowed him to discover many more musical traditions and intensely engage with them.
Since then Gert had the opportunity to play with and learn from many musicians of different cultural backgrounds. Today, it is precisely this diversity that is the most characteristic aspect of his existence as a human being and of his work as a pianist, composer and producer.
Gert´s debut solo album "Amanet" is a first, quintessential glimpse into his perspective on music and life.
