Pedro de Dios, the voice and guitar of Guadalupe Plata and Pelomono, released his first solo album last year via Chicken Attack Records. Issued only on cassette format, Sol y Sombra is made up of eight of his own compositions and a lovely version of Paloma Negra, a song originally sang by the Mexican composer and singer, Tomás Méndez in 1979.
After nearly fifteen years with Guadalupe Plata and seven albums later, Dios has turned to solo work to delve and explore a more personal side to his music and in a press release he described how:
“A few months ago rumours reached me. There was a damned soul that whispered songs on top of a hill between Úbeda, Benalúa and Granada, at nightfall on the day of the dead. What is presented here are some of these songs that were stolen from the lost soul in one of his appearances by him. Others are tributes to some legendary artists and others, things of life and death. Acknowledgments to the Institute of Parapsychology of Jaén for the transfer of sound records….”
