Necessary Evil is a quartet that originated in the heart of Brussels, in café De Daringman in particular. Three musicians and one poet. Teuk Henri plays guitar and bass guitar. Frank P plays drums & percussion, Jef Mercelis sings and plays Korg. Jan Ducheyne is the poet around whose poetry the music swarms, crackles, pops and then subtly fades away.

A Necessary Evil concert cannot be compared to anything. That expression is used quite often, but in this case it is simply true.

The gentlemen are on their toes, because they have just recorded a new album in Studio Jesus with Pascal Deweze: 'Morsen Met Mensen', which features guest roles for Nicolas Rombouts on double bass and Pascal Deweze on various instruments. When this foursome gives a concert, anything is possible. Improvisation is evident.

Jan Ducheyne's poems differ from much other poetry in that they are, as it were, written to dance to the music that the trio throws at his feet. If Jef Mercelis also produces his bone-chilling voice, then the fence is completely over. The intense playing pleasure radiates from Teuk Henri & Frank Pay. And that's about the most important thing, besides the look in your eyes in the front row.
