The Venitia Sekema Band In preparation for her 3rd full length CD release, Venitia has been working with her own group, the VS band. After meeting them and jamming at her weekly open mic at the Livery in Benton Harbor, the response was too great to ignore, so they started working up she and Dan’s original material, and cool covers, both acoustic and electric style. Joe Bradley keeps it solid on drums. Brandon Dinges makes it funky on bass, Danny Dine consistently wow’s the crowd on lead guitar, and Venitia drives the bus with her soulful vocals and skilled guitar work. Indie Music Magazine. Not what you'd expect to be said about performing songwriters these days, but Venitia has gotten used to being the exception to the rule. She has been steadily winning over audiences around the Midwest with her straight forward, sometimes funny, always emotionally moving lyrics. Her second full length album released May 2007, has been met with critical success, and radio and internet airplay in the US, Canada and Europe, earning her album, Certification as an International 'Top 10' by the International Association of Independent Recording Artists. Venitia's style is hard to pin down, a typical performance includes songs that range from Delta Blues to Uptown Jazz, Down Home Country to the most Modern Folk. Even with so much variety, the audience connects with what she has to say, since deep down she has the heart of a storyteller, and each person can find something in her songs that relates to their own life. As the saying goes, She's a little bit folk, a little bit blues and a whole lotta soul! Danny Dine As a kid, Dan taught himself to play multiple instruments, spanning genres including folk, rock, jazz, blues and country. As talented as he is as an instrumentalist, he is also a prolific songwriter, having written over 200 original songs, starting shortly after receiving his big brother’s handed down Univox guitar. At 18 he formed his own band, drinking in the music of the day, he spent hours listening to albums and cassette tapes, mimicking what he heard. During his musical career, Danny has been in numerous bands, playing some of the best stages in Michiana. He also had the privilege to play during the early years of Rainbow Farms in Vandalia, Michigan before its’ national demise. A player in demand, he has been asked to perform with many Jazz and Blues greats such as Jenna Mamina, Darnel Watson, Mike Vassari and Jacki Ivory, the Hammond B3 man of motown’s Junior Walker and the All-Stars fame. Joe Bradley Joe grabbed the sticks at 6, working out rhythms on his step-dad’s snare drum, then at 10 he started taking lessons & listening to the masters like Buddy Rich, whom he met as a young teen while attending one of his concerts. Afterwards, he waited by the tour bus, the door swung open and he was invited in by the man himself, an event that changed his life. He studied hard and at 15 became one of the youngest members of the Rocky Mountain Magic Drum Corps, touring 40 states in one summer. His career has led him to stages around the Midwest, opened for Nazareth, and along with fellow VS band mate and bassist, Brandon Dinges, collaborated with Steve Albini, producer of “Utero” by Nirvana, on his own original music project. Brandon Dinges Brandon learned the bass around the age of 12, the usual way. He formed a band with his friends and one of them said, “hey, who’s gonna play the bass?” During his teens he immersed himself in music of all kinds, concentrating on Jazz, taking him to South West Michigan College, where he met Joe Bradley, also studying under John Kortzen and the Alphie Schultz, touring with the University Jazz Band.
