Greg (Frey) and his wife Pat built a log cabin with a full 8 foot basement where Graphic Sound could operate. They were maxed-out financially and, so was UI. Wright, (the only Ui in proximity) happened to operate a tree farm and offered to trade trees for studio time at Graphic. This time allowed the trio to record and mix several tracks that, along with the 2-Sided EP, caught the attention of Danielle and Cece at Southern Records who invited them aboard, allowing the band to finish Sidelong. From the puzzle pieces of August Song the wind-up rhythms of Sexy Photograph, to the incorrect disco of Butterfly Who and the krautrock incessantness of Johnny, the unconventional song form rules, at least for 48 minutes.
