Return trip of the melodica master’s then exclusive (2001) version excursion pulled straight from master tapes produced by the don, Bunny Lee Culled from rare B-sides, unreleased dubplates and smokiest session recordings that had never seen the light of day by its original release, in 2001, ‘Dubbing With The Don’ parades a properly haunting set of heavy trod, step, and skank leavened by Pablo’s timelessly expressive melodica, organ, piano, and clavinet. An allstar cast - Aston “Family Man” Barrett & Robbie Shakespeare on bass, Carlton Barrett on drums, Chinna on guitar, and Bobby Ellis on trumpet - lay down the grooves, dubbed to the rafters and hilt by Bunny Lee, for Pablo to soar over and sooth the swede, notably on (then_ unheard versions of ‘Cassava Piece’, here as ‘Sweet Cassava (Dub)’ with bellowing bass and pregnant with drop outs, or the recursive echo chamber killer version of ‘King Tubby meets Rockers Uptown’, renamed ‘Rockers Downtown’, with Pablo flying like a bird groggy on fermented fruit in ‘Well Frozen’ (Dub)’, or high over mad acidic bursts and doo wop croon in ‘Talking Dub’, the duppy soul diffusion ‘Death Trap (Dub)’, and a mournful ‘Pablo Express’.
