For a time, altoist Virginia Mayhew and trumpeter Rebecca Franks co-led a quintet. This Italian CD features the horns with either Larry Goldings or Kevin Hays on piano, Sean Smith or Andy Eulau on bass, and drummer Leon Parker. With the exception of Franks' blues "Honeydew" and Horace Silver's lesser-known "Grease Piece," the repertoire is comprised of standards. Mayhew in particular is in excellent form (she is showcased on "Body and Soul"), and among the highlights are ""Now's the Time," "Yesterdays" and "Just Friends." Recommended to straight-ahead jazz collectors who can find this obscure effort.
