Over the past fifteen years, Hugo Lippi has become one of the most sought-after European guitarists. We could see him alongside the most prestigious musicians. He always respects a certain implicit injunction: “The musicians who inspire me can cross stylistic boundaries without changing depending on the context.

On January 27, 2020, he was awarded the prestigious Django Reinhardt prize (French jazz musician of the year) by the Jazz Academy. For this fifth album under his name he records a peak of poetry. This solo recording shows Hugo Lippi as an improviser with a background as shared as it is unexpected. And also as a composer with the album Reflections in B, built on the harmony of the adagio from Concerto No. 5 in E flat major by Beethoven. An illustration of what the nature of jazz is: starting from an unexpected place to arrive where you didn't know you would go.

It took Hugo Lippi a day to record Reflections in B, his first solo guitar album. Or, to paraphrase a joke from Pablo Picasso, one day and a good twenty years of career.

His emotional journey in music can be seen in his choice of standards: "A Child is Born" by Thad Jones, "Girl" by the Beatles, "All the Things You Are" by Jerome Kern, "The Ballad of Johnny Jane" by Serge Gainsbourg, "But Not For Me" by George Gershwin, Kate Bush, a march by Elgar...

“I seek both intensity and letting go. Paco de Lucia says that, in jazz, you don't know where you will be in fifteen seconds. Jazz is a way of approaching life. The desire to surprise myself..." - Hugo Lippi
