Grapes Of Grain - Unaware (2023)

The previous album by the Utrecht band Grapes Of Grain dates back to 2009. Since then the band has been, as they say, on indefinite leave. After the lockdown, however, Alexis Vos, the songwriter/singer/guitarist of the company, started to get the itch again. He contacted his old buddy Berend Jan Ike (guitar, keys, bass, drums) and they recorded an EP, which was released in January 2023. However, there was more to come and Unaware (self-published) was released at the end of last year. It contains 10 songs that can be situated at the intersection of indie pop and alt-country. Old acquaintances Stefan Breuer (electric guitar, keys, banjo, percussion) and Harm van Sleen (pedal steel, dobro) will also be present. It is clear that it is a shame that they have been out of action for a long time, because we were just waiting for this. The melancholy is evident, but hey, isn't that what we want as modern (city) cowboys? Now the sun is shining for a while, but we all remember what it was like Raining In December. Singer Linda Dunnavant from Nashville sings on Front Steps. The subdued No Lies is perhaps one of the most beautiful songs to have been released in the Netherlands in the past year. The album closes with the beautiful Worries (about fatherhood).
