In July 1979, Chic's dance classic Good Times topped the American charts. In September 1979, Rapper's Delight was the first single to be released on New Jersey's Sugar Hill label, and it borrowed liberally from Chic's indestructible groove. This twin-disc survey of Sugar Hill and its most prominent artist, Grandmaster Flash, is an education in the roots of hip-hop and its debt to the dancefloor, as well as a beginner's guide to sampling.
