Spargo - Good Time Spirit (Remastered) (1980)

Spargo are a Dutch disco-pop band, formed in Amsterdam in 1975. The group was originally called Funkliefhebber Lammertink and consisted of guitarists Ruud Mulder and Hans Elbersen, lead singer and keyboardist Ellert Driessen, bassist Jef Nassenstein, and drummer Leander Lammertink. In 1979, the planets aligned for Spargo as Elbersen quit the band and American singer Lilian Day Jackson joined their ranks, setting the stage for their big breakthrough with their 1980 single “You and Me.” The track proved to be an absolute blockbuster, topping the charts in the Netherlands and charting in Belgium, Germany, Iceland, and Sweden. They followed this success with the album Go (1981), which peaked at Number 14 on the Dutch charts. Despite scoring numerous hits during the remainder of the decade, Spargo failed to replicate the success of “You and Me” and called it quits in 1985. The band reformed in 1997 and released the singles “Indestructible” and “Make a New Start,” followed by several performances on TV shows such as TopPop. With Jackson’s brother Larry on percussion and Driessen’s son Joao on saxophone, the band continued to perform well into the 21st century, playing at some of the most renowned festivals in the Netherlands.
