The Electric Boys entered my world a couple of years after Jovi by virtue of their astonishing “Funk O Metal Carpet Ride” record and give or take their hiatus, they’ve never let you down.

So, as it were get ready to spank your plank and bite the dust (if you know, you know) because Conny Bloom and the boys are back, and “Grand Explosivos” is a funky rollercoaster of their signature sound.

Where “Upside Down” perhaps not unreasonably was a little more serious than normal, given that it came out in 2021, this from the minute “When Life Treats You Funky” hits is a classic Electric Boys track, embracing their roots.

“Better Safe Than Sober” emerges as a post-pandemic party anthem, shaking off the struggles and all the better for it. “I’ve Got A Feeling” showcases Conny’s prowess, channelling The Cult and Ian Hunter with flair. “And The Band Played On – Part 1” is a funky ode to music’s healing power, with Captain Backseat making a charismatic appearance, we’ll say no more than that.

“Domestic Blitz” exudes the sheer joy of music as an escape. “Karma’s Gonna Get You” warns of deserved consequences (Conny’s all about the Yin and Yang obviously)

“Missed Her By A Minute” is a glorious melodic piece, a treat for fans of Night Flight Orchestra. “Learjet” flaunts its bold musicality, swinging with confidence. “Cozmic Jagger” and “The Great Believer” don’t hide their influences, delivering unapologetic boogie-woogie vibes and a firm belief in leather pants.

“Grand Explosivos” is a dynamic journey through the Electric Boys’ musical universe, offering a mix of nostalgia and fresh energy, and maybe my lifelong love of the band makes me a fanboy but this is genuinely life-affirming.
