Currently living in Brisbane, Australia, after completing a PhD, focused on collaboration and abstract composition techniques for large ensemble, Dutch saxophonist/composer/arranger Marike van Dijk has divided her time working and living between New York and the Netherlands in recent years.
Commissioned by the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2020 as the Festival’s annual composition assignment, Van Dijk’s concept for Stranded developed over the following two years until its delayed premiere at the Festival in 2022 – due to the pandemic. Stranded marks Van Dijk’s 4th album and is a co-release between Brooklyn Jazz Underground Records and ZenneZ Records.
