We present to your attention a real rarity, a rare limited edition of the album Roxette - Look Sharp, with which they began their star trek to the top of the musical Olympus. In addition to the hits The Look and Listen To Your Heart, I would also like to highlight Chances, Dance Away and Shadow Of A Doubt - very beautiful songs. The song The Look made the Swedish pop-rock band real stars. The authors and producers initially did not believe in the success of the track, but fate intervened in the face of an indifferent fan, thanks to which the composition became an international hit that brought Roxette world fame.
Here's what they remembered about the history of the creation of the song “The Look” Roxette band members: Per Gessle: “Walking like a man, hitting like a hammer”... the first words of the verse were an indicative text. These are just words scribbled on paper so that you can sing something. We couldn't think of anything better, so we left them. Sometimes anyone can get lucky. Marie Frederiksson: I couldn't sing it, and it was perfect for Peru. But in those days he didn't believe in himself as a performer. According to the author's memoirs, when working on the text, he tried to select words that best fit the rhythm of the composition, so it is hardly worth looking for a deep meaning in the song “The Look”. Many listeners – you will agree, not unreasonably – see erotic overtones in different lines. The song was recorded at EMI's Stockholm studio in the spring of 1988.
The track got to the USA thanks to Dean Cushman, who studied in Sweden under a student exchange program. He brought the song to KDWB Radio in Minneapolis and asked to put it on the air. The composition was liked by the listeners, got into active rotation on many stations and was widely distributed around the country on cassettes. On the wave of success, EMI hastened to release “The Look” as a single from the album “Look Sharp!”, which topped the Billboard Hot 100, which came as a surprise to the members of Roxette. The song also became a hit in many other countries of the world, taking the first lines in the most popular charts. Marie Fredriksson: For me, it's still one of my favorite songs of all time. It's probably the best thing we've ever done-she's as well–known now as she was then. In 1995, the band introduced a new version of the song, calling it “The Look ‘95". She was included in the compilation album of the best Roxette songs “Don't Bore Us, Get to the Chorus". Another remix was presented to the fans in 2015. Per Gessle: Our first American No. 1 and, of course, the "Big Breakthrough". It topped the charts in about thirty countries, but there was a time when I thought it was a dummy.
