Phil Smith - Into the Night (2023)

This album is a collection of songs - old and new - recorded over a period of 3 1/2 years due to lengthy delays imposed by covid lockdowns and other assorted disruptions. A sister album to 2014’s Year Of The Dog, it deals with themes of solitude and loss, death and departure, finding solace in the compassion of strangers, big cities, living too fast, haunting memories of past heartbreaks…you know, just the usual stuff. It’s a bit of a rollercoaster ride…which is probably perfect. In hindsight.
