AVID Country continues with its Five Classic Albums series with a second re-mastered 2CD release from Johnny Cash, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details and bonus tracks.

“Songs Of Our Soil”; “Sings Hank Williams”; “The Sound Of Johnny Cash”; “Now Here’s Johnny Cash” and “Ride The Train”.

We all know the story of Johnny Cash, born into a large, poor family, working in the cotton fields by the age of five. Being discovered at Sun Studios alongside Elvis, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Roy Orbison before going on to sell over 90 million records worldwide while becoming an iconic living legend! We also all know, of course, what he sounds like, that familiar boom chikka boom chikka boom riff behind that deep, dark voice! We also know that they just don’t make ‘em like that anymore! Here at AVID we thought it only appropriate that our second foray into the great man’s vast catalogue of country music should feature not 4 but 5 classic albums plus bonus tracks from one of country music’s greatest legends! Here we present five mid period albums from the late 1950s and early 1960s displaying the range of music covered by the “man in black”. He takes us from gospel to folk and blues, to rockabilly and rock “n” roll to country and pop. Whatever the genre, whether he wrote it himself or he sings a cover version, the sound is always that of the inimitable and unique Johnny Cash. If, like me, you cannot get that haunting image of him from his final “Hurt”video out of your head, take a listen to these early albums, they will lift your spirits and take you back to where it all started. And as an extra treat to add to the pleasure of listening to Johnny’s unique singing voice we have included his classic American travelogue album “Ride This Train”. This unique album not only features many songs written and sung by Johnny but also his equally unique speaking voice as he sings and adds narration for us during a stunning train journey across America. This absolutely authentic Cash narration alongside the sound of the moving trains and screaming whistles blasting in the background offers the listener a truly unique look at the wonder that is the U.S.A. And indeed, also, the wonder that is Johnny Cash! A unique experience not to be missed.
