Other than her 1966-1967 Columbia singles, this was Hester's most determined effort to crack the pop market. There was a little bit of country music, a little bit of singer/songwriter stuff, and a little bit of MOR pop. And, ultimately, there was not enough of anything to make an impact, although it fell short of being an embarrassment. The arrangements were tepid early-'70s studio rock (with contributions by L.A. session vets Hal Blaine, Earl Palmer, Joe Osborn, and Larry Knechtel), the material (with only three compositions by Hester) failed to leave an impression, and the covers of tunes by Lobo and Elton John helped guarantee that the LP would not be rediscovered by collectors in future years. What can you say in the album's favor? Well, Hester's vocal talents were still fully intact, and she still could not be mistaken for anyone else, with her almost unnaturally high and slightly shaky timbre. That makes it stand out a bit from the crates of similar blah singer/songwriter albums cranked out in the early '70s, but that doesn't mean that anyone except Hester fanatics should seek it out.
