The John Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach is one of the most performed works of our time. This recording featuring the St. Thomas Boys Choir and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra was released in 2007 and is now available with a new design and at a special price.
Hardly any other work by Johann Sebastian Bach was edited by him as often as The Passion for John. This CD contains the "final" version of the work, which was most likely performed in 1749, a year before the composer's death.
This version of The John Passion differs from the original version by significant changes in instrumentation (for example, the use of contraphagot), as well as in music and lyrics.
Thomanerchor, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, Ruth Hilton, Mathias Rexroth, Markus Ullmann, Gotthold Schwartz and Henrik Boehm will perform under the baton of Thomascantor Georg Christoph Biller.
