I had found that listening to my 10 Hits CD by the Andrews Sisters always left me wanting more. So I went looking for the best deal on more and this set seemed to be the one. 3 CDs, each one packed with 20 tunes. Most of the ones included earned a spot in the Top 40, six of them #1s. Over the years the sisters recorded 47 songs with Bing Crosby, 23 of which charted on Billboard. Eight of these are in this set including “Don’t Fence Me In,” “Pistol Packin’ Mama,” and their cover of Louis Jordan’s “Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby.” The Andrews are often associated with World War Two and a song such as “There'll Be A Hot Time In The Town Of Berlin” (in which our boys “take a hike into Hitler’s Reich”) support this. The music is performed by some of the leading orchestras of the day such as Guy Lombardo and his Royal Canadians, Bob Crosby, Gordon Jenkins Orchestra, Joe Venuti Orchestra, and Russ Morgan and his orchestra. The music is great, but all the dates, facts and figures here are from wikipedia since the packaging includes little beyond a list of the songs. And then there is Don Raye, a largely overlooked song writer who contributes seven tunes to this 3 CD.
