Myrkvi is a sonic exploration of the shadow self. On this new album, based on a dance piece he composed in 2014, the Icelandic composer and producer embraces a more electronic side to his music.

“I created most of this album in 2014 and sort of forgot it. I found it while revisiting some old material and it fitted a narrative that I have been exploring for a while: a personal shadow. The process involves casting a light on your unconscious behaviors, bringing those into awareness, learning from them, and using them as tools to strengthen your character into a brighter future.

The music itself also represents a shadow of what I am currently working on in my music, a shadow like a musical past that is a part of my musical adventure. It is a musical shadow that I have repressed so far. And so as a part of an acceptance journey, I am allowing it now to be brought to my, and the public’s, awareness.”

The album was fully recorded, produced, mixed, and mastered by Viktor Orri Árnason, and will be released digitally only on March 3rd, 2023 via his own imprint, Eilífur, distributed by ALOADED.

The first single, “Skuggi”, to be released on January 27th, is Icelandic for “shadow”:

“‘Skuggi’ encapsulates for me the act of exploring unknown psychological territories, casting a light into the darkness and hoping to capture something that forces you to grow.”

Viktor Orri Árnason released his collaborative debut, VAST (Bedroom Community) in 2019, following up with his debut solo album Elífur (PENTATONE) in 2021. He is part of the art-pop band Hjaltalín, and has collaborated with artists such as Hildur Guðnadóttir, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Ólafur Arnalds, Yair Elazar Glotman, Daníel Bjarnason and Robot Koch, among many others.
