These tracks dated from 1988, but it took 12 years to come out. Why? Ask the Master of Time, the Ark (of) Sunlight, Emperor Rastafari (aka Lee Scratch) Perry and don't expect an answer that's less than oracular. Alternatively, just enjoy the wonder of it all as the far-out genius of the reggae recording studio delivers 10 slamming dub tracks for your delectation. Lee was at the controls when the Wailers mutated from a fast-fading ska/rock steady singing group, into the reggae band with the world at its feet and Bob Marley at its core. He went on to produce many of the most happening reggae tracks of the '70s (Junior Murvin, Susan Cadogan, the Heptones etc.). Decades later, the master has not lost his touch. Every track is brimming with the mesmeric dub techniques he pioneered, complete with his spaced-out toasting, Marleyesque vocals and waistwinding grooves. Look out especially for his wickedly excessive epic version of Bob's "Exodus" and his own "Burn Funky" if you want to find yourself skanking helplessly on the dancefloor.--Max Reinhardt
