The revival of the harpsichord in the 20th century first made it possible to play keyboard music from the 17th and 18th centuries on the instrument for which it was originally composed.

But its sound gradually inspired 20th-century composers as well, and a contemporary repertoire of original harpsichord music developed. A contemporary repertoire has indeed allowed the harpsichord to reach a maturity in which it is heard and appreciated in a way that enhances its long history and heritage, of which the music on this CD is particularly representative.
