Doctor Mother Father is a solo endeavour, turned into an actual band, started by Corey Bonnevie. The project technically began in 2015 but never saw the light of day. The idea of starting a new project didn’t take priority, due to Corey’s involvement with his band Little You Little Me. In 2020 the pandemic lockdowns happened and any plans of touring or recording came to a full stop. But the one silver lining was the Doctor Mother Father folder on Corey’s hard drive. With nothing but time, Corey finalized songs and released the project’s first release Catholic in July 2020.

While it was exciting to have new music released, live shows were few and far between. Saint John’s local campus radio station 107.3 Local FM asked Corey to have the band play their Best of Saint John Awards show in the summer of 2021. The only issue was that the band wasn’t officially a band. Corey had to recruit players to perform the music live. With lockdowns still happening, the task was still full of uncertainty, especially with the Saint John music scene on a hiatus. He eventually came around to asking rhythm power couple Kortni Nicols on bass and Colin Ferris on drums. Both of which have their own respective projects Lionsault and Shiek. In about a month, they pulled together a 30 minute set. The performance put a spark in the three piece group. While supporting the record, Corey began writing new songs with Kortni and Colin as the rhythm section. An album’s worth of music was written by the end of 2021.

They started 2022 with the immediate goal of capturing the new material. They cut everything live to a vintage 24 track tape machine at Monopolized. With overdubs recorded digitally, the band got the best of both worlds. Where the first release was recorded in a vacuum, the new record has the sound of people playing together in a room. Corey’s writing began leaning more towards his power pop influences. Mix that with the jolt of live takes, and you get something between power pop and garage rock. Feelin’ Fine arrives February 10th 2023 via Monopolized Records. This record ought to fill your garage pop needs!
