His large orchestra is remniscent of Gil Evans big band in final stages; his pieces have quirky, unpredictable quality, as do his recordings.

Un Right Off qui démarre sur les chapeaux de roue avec un Stefano Di Battista qui se révèle, un Thème from Joy House par un Lucky Peterson au sommet à l'orgue pour faire monter la pression, un who's been talkin' pour faire virevolter ces dames, et un cobalt pour terminer en haut, tout là haut.
