Fredrik Bock - Reforming Hymns (2023)

Copenhagen-based vocal ensemble Musica Ficta and musicologist Bjarke Moe have teamed up to study the hymns of the Danish Reformation. During this time, such hymns were often adopted from other languages or adapted from the Middle Ages and were intended to change the world view of the population. This 30-piece publication illustrates, but also makes reference to, the development from Gregorian chant in the new Protestant church, through the introduction of hymns from the Lutheran setting, to 17th-century hymns sung by the congregation other European musical works of the 16th century.
