Te Vaka has been described as one of the most talented and original World music acts to appear on the international scene for years. With a vibrant blend of traditional rhythms, indigenous instruments, captivating vocals and globally influenced contemporary sounds - this music is a fusion of styles that is both fresh and original. Opetaia Foa'i is the songwriter and lead vocalist of the group. The inspiration for his music comes from his multi-cultural upbringing - half Tokelauan, half Tuvaluan, born in Samoa and bought up in a Tokelauan community in New Zealand. Opetaia's musical background spans both the traditional and the diverse influences of contemporary metropolitan culture. With 7 internationally acclaimed, award winning albums to date, he has been described as "one of New Zealand's finest songwriters" and " a true son of the Pacific". Te Vaka has toured the world constantly since 1997, performing in 40 countries. There is some real south seas magic in Amataga - Te Vaka's eighth album. If you are new to Te Vaka music you will find it refreshing and new, it's a different take on the world. If you are already a Te Vaka fan you will fall in love all over again.
