The Urban Chiefs recorded their third studio album at Damien Gerard Studios Balmain at the end of 2013. Returning to work with industry veteran engineer/producer Russel Pilling (The Church, Hoodoo Gurus, The Vines) for a second time, Blake and Glendon have established their identity and found their voice, with this new record, ‘Rise Above’. This is a musician’s album and the musicians are technicians, craftsman with their instruments. The Urban Chiefs recorded their third studio album at Damien Gerard Studios Balmain at the end of 2013. The guitars and drums were tracked live and recorded onto 2’’ tape and remain on the final master to capture the essence of their high energy live performance. ‘Rise Above’ was released through MGM Distribution at the Adelaide Fringe in February 2014.

No strangers to the road and with over 400 shows under their belt since 2010. 2012/13 saw them hit the road on a six month long national tour, promoting their first record City of Light, recorded in 2012. After clocking up over 30,000km’s and covering six states the boys were invited to play the 2013 Bluesfest busking stage in Byron Bay, wowing the well seasoned audience with their energy packed show.

“City of Light isn’t country at all, but more a mish-mash of a variety of roots-based styles... Slide guitar-driven blues tunes, folk-ish saunters, rock ‘n’ roll thumpers, it’s all there…” - SAMUEL J. FELL, Rhythms Magazine

City of Light has taken the stripped-back sound of their debut album Sacred Law (2010 Independent) and turned it on its head. Blake’s signature weissenborn acoustic slide guitar, along with an array of other acoustic guitars, is played through dual pick-ups, with a combination of effects pedals and an acoustic preamp. The guitar produces a massive, and sometimes psychedelic sound, which is uniquely his own. Combined with Glendon’s high-energy, almost frantic drumming style, audiences have been stunned from Cairns to Tassie by the huge sound this tight two-piece is producing.
