This excellent 3-CD album opens very interesting perspectives in a consistent quality of implementation. Firstly it gives a glimpse of the variety of minimalist movement that covers both a circular Philip Glass arpeggios, more neo- romantic, the religious tintinabulisme a Pärt , enjoyment micro - offsets a Riley or Reich, verve and almost jubilant " Britpop " Nyman or a poetic dreamer and a bit gray from those who claim to Satie.
It can also measure how the minimalist movement and experimental rock can feed fruitful links. It is true that minimalism sometimes building on hypnotic pulsations, the border is narrow. But this interdependence through many other currents of contemporary music and suggests that the boundary between art music and popular music tends to be reduced : just return to the order of things ?
The excellent performance of "In C" Riley, with orchestration by partially electrified , is an illustration . Personally, 4 hands pure music beautifully played by Labèque sisters, the most notable pieces are "Two Pianos " Glass , " Hymn to a great city" of Pärt and the jubilant "Water dances " Nyman who could provide breath of fresh air in concert halls as it is rewarding and for performers and listeners.
