Pianist, composer and arranger from Rio de Janeiro, Gilson Perannzzetta lived in Barcelona, Spain, between 1971 and 1974 – years before gaining prominence as a musician and conductor in the MPB universe from the second half of the 1970s.

During the social isolation forced by the covid-19 pandemic, the artist stirred up the affective memories of those times he lived in Spain, especially in the period spent in Barcelona. These memories were the motto for the creation of Caderno español, an album that Peranzzetta will release next Friday, October 28, in an edition of Mills Records.

The pianist plays 12 original themes in Caderno Español. The titles of several songs – Barcelona, Calle San Pablo, Catedral Sagrada Familia, Las ramblas and Pelas ruas de Barcelona – already explain the composer's inspiration.

Recorded by Peranzzetta with bassist Didier Fernan and drummer Rodrigo Dias, with Mauro Senise (saxophone and flute), Murilo da Rós (flamenco guitar) and Ricardo Pontes (saxophone and flute) as guest musicians, the album Caderno español has a theme named after named after Tete Montoliu (1933 – 1997), a Catalan jazz pianist with whom Gilson shared the stage several times.

As a curiosity of the record, there is the fact that the pianist sings the song Algorta Bilbao.
