Voilà un album exhaustif qui propose la totalité de la musique de chambre de Britten dans d'excellentes interprétations. On y trouve ses premiers essais d'enfant jusqu'au dernier Quatuor à cordes, écrit en 1975, comme un écho à son opéra Mort à Venise. Parmi les nombreux interprètes de ce vaste album, on peut citer le Quatuor Endellion s’investissant avec un art consommé de la litote et de l'intimité. Le violoncelliste Truls Mork, très inspiré par les Suites pour violoncelle solo ou le pianiste Stephen Hough qui semble vraiment s'amuser en jouant les valses écrites par un tout jeune homme de dix ans...
