Although a relatively obscure name today, Sunnyland Slim was one of the leading blues pianists of the last century, performing with many of the popular musicians of the twenties in Memphis and branching out on his own following his move to Chicago at the start of the 1940s. Slim s Shout was recorded in 1960, in New Jersey of all places, but Slim made the transition well and worked expertly with a local rhythm section to produce a classic album. Featuring several of the songs that have come to be considered Slim standards, this has become acknowledged as one of the best albums of his career.
