Ragna Schirmer, Andrey Boreyko, Hamburg Symphony Orchestra - Schmidt: Concertante Variationen & Piano Concerto, Op. 61a (2009)

After four highly successful CDs, newcomer Ragna Schirmer has become an established artist. On her new CD, the Echo Award winner is now consistently continuing her path to success with her first orchestral recording

Together with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra under its future principal conductor Andrey Boreyko, the pianist has recorded a particularly interesting program: Beethoven's Violin Concerto in a rarely heard arrangement for piano and orchestra and, from the 1920s, the Concertante Variations on a Theme by Beethoven by composer Franz Schmidt. The latter refers to a theme of Beethoven's popular Spring Sonata, which is not dissimilar to the theme of his Violin Concerto

So the relationship arcs are stretched in many ways, and the trade press and fans are just as excited about the wonderful interplay between all the participants.
