Jan Vogler and five excellent young musicians have selected and recorded a unique programme of Antonin Dvořák's chamber music works especially for "The Dvořák Album". Not far from Dvořák's Czech homeland, the internationally renowned Moritzburg Festival takes place every year, on the occasion of which the international musicians have come together under the artistic direction of Jan Vogler. In addition to Vogler himself, the American violinists Chad Hoopes and Kevin Zhu, violist Matthew Lipman as well as pianist Tiffany Poon and Finnish pianist Juho Pohjonen can be heard on this album. "Antonín Dvořák has left us a wealth of Romantic chamber music: unique pieces, loved and interpreted around the world, that are absolutely unparalleled," Vogler says of the recording. The album begins with the song "Als die alte Mutter", arranged for cello and piano, which delves deeply into Dvořák's very own musical language. The subsequent Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat major, op. 87, is a musical salon piece and is entirely in the tradition of Schumann and Brahms. The "Scherzo" from the Terzetto op. 74, written for two violins and a viola, transports the listeners to the Bohemian countryside. The landscape and people of this region are also masterfully described in the varied "Dumky" Piano Trio. For Jan Vogler, this piano trio is "a wild, passionate piece that leaves the listener with a veritable flood of emotions." This Dvořák album concludes with the famous seventh piano "Humoresque", which once again emphasises the special charm of Dvořák's music.
