Do you know how Baroque organ music from Gdańsk could have sounded at the time of its origin? Martin Rost and Krzysztof Urbaniak have together addressed this question and now present the first part with “Danziger Barock I.” The reason for this project is incidentally a very special one: In Pasłek in Poland the restoration work on the Hildebrandt Organ in St Bartholomew’s Church was recently completed. This instrument, dating from 1719, is the only remaining one from this organ builder in this size. What could be better as a first recording on this organ than to record the repertoire from exactly this time?

The result can be seen and heard here. The intoxicating power of sound on the one hand, a filigree of detail on the other: in short, the organ is in its new and old form a real gem! One can feel this thanks to Martin Rost’s galant playing, not only on site, but also on the recording, which makes this new PASCHENrecords CD a real experience in sound, not only for organ experts...

... And our journey through the baroque world of organ music from Gdańsk continues. After Martin Rost began with “Danziger Barock I,” Krzysztof Urbaniak dedicates himself to the second part and therewith closes a circle that binds the two productions together.

Both on the first, as well as on the second CD one can hear clearly, that both organists have devoted themselves intensively to the repertoire. Urbaniak’s youthfully fresh, yet very precise playing, who incidentally since last year is Artist in Residence at the Artur-Rubinstein-Philharmonie in Łódz, takes with many improvised ornaments and interjections a further exciting look at the works of our three composers Volckmar, Mohrheim and Gronau.

What we have up until now however not yet revealed to you is that Danziger Barock I and II together form the first recording of the complete works of Volckmar and Mohrheim worldwide. Therefore with both the PASCHENrecords CDs “Danziger Barock” you can take home the complete journey through the world of this unique organ music and enjoy the authentic sound at any time...
