18: Schumann-Liszt

More virtuoso or ingenious competitors at Chopin Competition 2021,
nevertheless why 2nd prize, because 12 captivated all juries, I think :p
12 isn't usually played at Competition but how touching :))
Brave but profound Chopin !

Check also his Mendelssohn :)

Sorita made quite a fine recording of the Rach 2/Rhapsody on Theme of Paganini with the fiery young Italian Andrea Battistoni back in 2015 for Denon. A Rach 3 with the Russian National is hardly less fine.

I find his Liszt a bit more difficult to like. The program is a bit disorganised (but it's a first disc). His instrument of choice is a New York Steinway; like early Cho he has formidable power that he tamed in his following recordings. Some like their Liszt this way.

I suppose he's looking for a more international profile - hence the competitions - but he really doesn't need them.
