For the first time in his career, he can't hide: Not behind the great post-hardcore anthems of Boysetsfire, not behind his bandmates, and certainly not behind his old self-doubts. Nathan Gray, together with guitarist Ben Christo and cellist Isabelle Klemt, played two very intimate shows in Wiesbaden's Ringkirche and in Iserlohn's Dechenhöhle. On his new live album he talks openly about hurtful, personal topics and presents himself more as having arrived at himself
Gray had to go through a lot to get to where he is today. After a long period of musical self-discovery with Boysetsfire, follow-up project The Casting Out, I Am Heresy and as the Nathan Gray Collective with Daniel E. Smith, he finally connected with himself with his solo debut Feral Hymns. The beginning of his journey as a solo artist also marks the beginning of his inner healing: while the last few years have been marked by repressed moments, feelings pushed aside, and inner demons, Gray is now shedding old beliefs and faiths like a snake that grows to the end of its life and sheds its skin again and again in order to dedicate himself to a positive, fulfilling life
On his An Evening With Nathan Gray tour in May 2018, the Boysetsfire frontman played two concerts in an exceptionally intimate atmosphere: in Wiesbaden's Ringkirche and in Iserlohn's Dechenhöh le, he presented his own and selected Boysetsfire songs together with Sisters Of Mercy guitarist Ben Christo and the successful cellist Isabelle Klemt, who studied cello at the Udk Berlin and has already toured in Japan, China, South Korea and Brazil. The shows were like a public therapy session for Gray, who spoke for the first time between songs about dark issues from his personal past, including depression and an abuse he suffered as a child, but also about how he faced the feelings involved and learned to forgive himself and others
