The Im / Herridge / Lacombe trio is thrilled to present their very first album: Movin’ Up !!! Jihye Im, Marshal Herridge and Valerie Lacombe met while studying at McGill and became friends over a shared love of piano trios such as Red Garland and Cedar Walton. The album was recorded last May at André White’s home and features arrangements developed collaboratively by the three musicians. The group’s approach is informed by both the strong swing of the Wynton Kelly Trio and the interplay and spontaneity of the Bill Evans Trio. By fusing these two schools of playing with their own original and contemporary ideas, the trio offers a refreshing interpretation of the traditional jazz piano tradition.
