Released in 2014 by the BBR label in the U.K, this two-disc, CD-only compilation covers Evelyn "Champagne" King's highlights throughout her time on the RCA label. The alliance resulted in eight albums, from 1977's Smooth Talk through 1985's A Long Time Coming. Presented chronologically, Action includes representations of all 20 of King's songs that reached Billboard's R&B chart during the period. There are album, single, and extended 12" versions, all chosen smartly, and the set does King's career justice -- by also including deep album cuts like "The Show Is Over," for instance -- in a way that a single-disc overview simply cannot accomplish. King not only adapted to the developments in R&B from the late '70s through the '80s but thrived, as heard in essential singles like "Shame," "I Don't Know If It's Right," "I'm in Love," "Love Come Down," and "Your Personal Touch."
