After a series of popular and award-winning recordings running over a wide range of the piano repertoire, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet is a well-known name in the piano lover’s world. But back in the late 1990’s when SACDs were new, Bavouzet was just a name on a little known Japanese label specializing in piano music. But I liked the Debussy Études and I was hungry for recordings on SACD, especially if they went beyond the warhorses. I couldn’t have imagines what I was about the hear.
There’s a reason Bavouzet is famous: he is a very, very fine pianist as both a technician, and more importantly as a musician!
