From the very first track, which opens with Larry’s powerful southern grow, followed by the band in a bluzy/rockin’ groove, you know you’re gonna like this CD, and you think you know where it’s going. But you’ll be pleasantly surprised though, as you listen to the band weave through twelve different and varied tracks. After a couple of blues tracks, check out the opening “second line” groove of “Gimme Gimme”, unexpected and a great song! There’s the dangerous soul of “Tattoo Hell” and then there’s the “boogie woogie” party, complete with keyboards, that is the title track, “Root Rubbin’ Ball”. The songs are original, and varied in subject, whether it’s the slow blues of “Do These Blues Match My Stress”, which speaks of life’s daily worries, to “Highway Miles” about Larry’s reliable old Chevy van, they all tell a story. The band is smokin’ hot, whether in a slow groove or tearin’ it up, and as always Britt Meacham’s guitar solos will “make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up”, there are some “special” guests, and as always, the constant is Larry’s powerful and soulful vocals. Roll all that up with twelve great new original songs, and you’ve got a “Root Rubbin Ball” that you don’t wanna miss.(Gumbo Charly)
