The Superhighway Band - Studio City (2021)

A wonderful project from the never-ending talents of funky maestro Shawn Lee – a set done in collaboration with horn player Nichol Thomson, who serves up some great brassy elements on the record! The date's not a classic funk outing with horns – and instead, Lee's created this sunny Cali groove with plenty of late 70s/early 80s touches – very much in the spirit of the cover, and then given these horn charts from Thompson – who really warms things up and deepens the soulful vibe of the entire album! Matt Cooper plays Clavinet and mini moog, and titles include "Funk Machine", "La Brea", "Act Weird", "The Shake", "Chartreuses", and "Just The Three Of Us".
