Lionlimb - Spiral Groove (2021)

Sweetness and escape, you want some. And it is with the great comeback of Lionlimb that we are dealing. Musician Stewart Bronaugh's project had marked its territory with his two iconic records, Shoo in 2016 and Tape Recorder in 2018. And the Nashville duo decided to make a winning comeback with their successor titled Spiral Groove.

Listening to this new record, we feel that Lionlimb has stirred up a multitude of storms. Stewart Bronaugh, in particular, had an epileptic fit that nearly cost him dearly and subsequently took a step back on his life in order to recharge his batteries. It is through baroque and touching compositions such as the introduction called "Electric" laying the foundations as well as the sumptuous "Everyday" and "Here" which are real pleas for life.

Once again, Lionlimb will draw his inspiration from the late Elliott Smith but also from Bright Eyes and The Magnetic Fields whose influences are felt through more touching titles than usual. This is particularly the case for "Lifespan" and "Nothing" where the formation of Nashville intends to move us while musing on death and the challenges of certain addictions that can break a life. The baroque arrangements that accompany them in particular on "Loveland Pass", "Real LifeM and" Temporary "make this Spiral Groove an exceptional record where Lionlimb heals its return with great ease.
