At first glance, Meet Me on the Corner: The Collection, Sanctuary's three-disc, 58-track Lindisfarne anthology, conjures up terms like "definitive" and "career-spanning," but further inspection reveals the demand for far less dramatic adjectives. Meet Me on the Corner's first disc collects songs from the English folk-rock outfit's Back and Fourth, News, and Sleepless Nights LPs, all three of which arrived in the early '80s when the band had begun to abandon the British folk of its early-'70s period for a more FM-friendly American country-rock sound. Disc two continues in the same vein, relying on tracks culled from Dance Your Life Away (1984), Amigos (1989), and Elvis Lives on the Moon (1996), while the third disc is merely a reissue of 1978's live Magic in the Air LP. Fans looking for a more comprehensive overview should pick up Virgin's 1989 The Best of Lindisfarne collection. © James Christopher Monger
