Hier sind die namhaften Vertreter dieses C&W-Genres versammelt: Allen voran der King of Bluegrass - Bill Monroe, der allein mit etwa 50 Titeln den Grundstock dieser Sammlung bildet. Natürlich sind Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, The Reno Brothers, The Bailey Brothers, Grandpa Jones, The Stanley Brothers und alle weiteren Heroen hier zu hören. Aber natürlich haben wir auch wieder einige Schätze aus den Anfängen der Bluegrass-Music ausgegraben.
Bluegrass gehört zum breiten Genre der Country-Musik und ist eine der wichtigsten US-amerikanischen Volksmusikrichtungen. Typisches Merkmal ist das rein akustische Klangbild, das aus Banjo, Fiddle, Mandoline, Gitarre, Dobro, Kontrabass und evtl. Gesang besteht. Der Bluegrass entstand in den Jahren 1937 bis 1945 in den Bergen von Kentucky und Tennessee. Der Mandolinenspieler Bill Monroe experimentierte zu dieser Zeit mit Old-Time-Fiddle- und Hillbilly-Stücken, angloamerikanischen Balladen, afroamerikanischer Tanzmusik und traditionellem Gospel-Harmoniegesang. Er formte daraus eine von Swing- und Blueselementen angereicherte Form der Country-Musik. Später heuerte er den jungen Banjospieler Earl Scruggs an, der den Dreifinger-Stil seines Heimatstaates North Carolina zu hoher Geschwindigkeit und Präzision perfektioniert hatte und damit den Sound der Band erheblich dynamisierte. Die Band trug den Namen »Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys«, als Reminiszenz an den »Bluegrass State« Kentucky.
Der Begriff Bluegrass bezeichnet die aufgrund des nährstoffreichen Bodens blaugrünen Blätter des Wiesen-Rispengrases. Der neue Stil wurde von den Medien deshalb später als Bluegrass bezeichnet. Mit Bill Monroes Gitarristen Lester Flatt gründete Earl Scruggs 1948 die Foggy Mountain Boys. Weitere stilbildende Musiker des Bluegrass der Gründerjahre waren der Banjospieler Don Reno und die Osborne, Jim und Jesse McReynolds und viele andere.

Auf 10 CDs (200 Titel) erlebt man die fantastische Dynamik des Bluegrass. Hier sind die namhaften Vertreter dieses C&W-Genres versammelt: Allen voran der King of Bluegrass - Bill Monroe, der allein mit etwa 50 Titeln den Grundstock dieser Sammlung bildet. Natürlich sind Lester Flatt & Earl Scruggs, The Reno Brothers, The Bailey Brothers, Grandpa Jones, The Stanley Brothers und alle weiteren Heroen hier zu hören. Aber natürlich haben wir auch wieder einige Schätze aus den Anfängen der Bluegrass-Music ausgegraben.
Bluegrass gehört zum breiten Genre der Country-Musik und ist eine der wichtigsten US-amerikanischen Volksmusikrichtungen. Typisches Merkmal ist das rein akustische Klangbild, das aus Banjo, Fiddle, Mandoline, Gitarre, Dobro, Kontrabass und evtl. Gesang besteht. Der Bluegrass entstand in den Jahren 1937 bis 1945 in den Bergen von Kentucky und Tennessee. Der Mandolinenspieler Bill Monroe experimentierte zu dieser Zeit mit Old-Time-Fiddle- und Hillbilly-Stücken, angloamerikanischen Balladen, afroamerikanischer Tanzmusik und traditionellem Gospel-Harmoniegesang. Er formte daraus eine von Swing- und Blueselementen angereicherte Form der Country-Musik. Später heuerte er den jungen Banjospieler Earl Scruggs an, der den Dreifinger-Stil seines Heimatstaates North Carolina zu hoher Geschwindigkeit und Präzision perfektioniert hatte und damit den Sound der Band erheblich dynamisierte. Die Band trug den Namen »Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys«, als Reminiszenz an den »Bluegrass State« Kentucky.
Der Begriff Bluegrass bezeichnet die aufgrund des nährstoffreichen Bodens blaugrünen Blätter des Wiesen-Rispengrases. Der neue Stil wurde von den Medien deshalb später als Bluegrass bezeichnet. Mit Bill Monroes Gitarristen Lester Flatt gründete Earl Scruggs 1948 die Foggy Mountain Boys. Weitere stilbildende Musiker des Bluegrass der Gründerjahre waren der Banjospieler Don Reno und die Osborne, Jim und Jesse McReynolds und viele andere.
