Giancarlo Barigozzi & Oscar Rocchi - Urubamba (1972/2021)

Giancarlo Barigozzi & Oscar Rocchi - Urubamba (1972/2021)
Of all the incredible, one-of-a-kind treasures over at Boxes of Toys, Urubamba is a major highlight for folks, like myself, on the eternal exotica hunt. Just in case any of you in my readership were unaware of the business over at Boxes of Toys, it's sort of my solemn duty to tip you to this thrilling LP of Italian library exotica.

It's got this classic, very cool sound, not super original but still subtly unique-- a toy-box simplicity with fat grooves and sugary lines of wordless vocals-- the sort of thing that would fit ever-so-nicely between Jungle Obsession and Umiliani's Africa/Polinesia, without really being more of the same in either (or any) category.

URUBAMBA - ITALIAN LIBRARY Lp music by THE TROPICALS aka OSCAR ROCCHI and GIANCARLO BARIGOZZI. Original Italian pressing on the JUMP label (J-0119), from circa 1972. Killer Library session led by the cult session men with crack studio group including an amazing percussion player and sexy scat vocalist. Desirable item, basically the holy grail and pinnacle sound of the Barigozzi / Rocchi partnership. An infectious mix of afro tinged, tribal funk and psychedelic lounge featuring Barigozzi's groovy flute and Oscar Rocchi's far-out electric piano. Spacey and tropical mood music with djembe drum patterns / hip hop beats / breaks / cool guitars / oriental motifs / jungle birds / animal sound FX and stoned hippie rhythms galore :) Our soundclip opens with a sample of the funky drum and conga breaks from AFRICAN POPCORN followed by the full theme / TROPICAL LOVE (with sexy whispering vocals) / the oriental inspired bossa of BRAZILIAN BUTTERFLY then most of the Lp. Great for DJs. Sounds just like a soundtrack score to an exotic soft porn movie or exploitation film. Funky samba breaks midway TARZAN DANCE / sexy scat on the trippy JAMAICAN LOVE SONG / hippie funk on BAOBAB BLUES / AMAZON RIVER etc etc. Overall, much more exotic sounding compared to Woman's Colours but the same players are on here, for sure. Very rare Library Lp!!!
