It is only recently that music-lovers have rediscoverd Naumann and in doing so have found a composer who penned twenty-five stage works and numerous sacred works for the Dresden court church and was an most important musical personality between Hasse and Carl Maria von Weber, forming a stylistic bridge between the two. The music of Naumann’s work of fine emotionality exhibits a strong stylistic affinity to La Betulia liberata, an oratorio set by Mozart three years later
